Love that lasts a lifetime June 25, 2008

Sometimes the stories we read seem almost unbelievable. They have a sense of perfection about them, or they are so outlandishly outstanding we think it couldn’t possibly be true. But again and again you read true stories of human endeavour, of love and of bravery and you remember our stories are all really just a collection of human sighs through history. If we write on something, we are just collecting a range of expereinces and thoughts together and placing them alongside each other to weave our own story.

I love reading stories that display the human spirit in all it’s forms. This story: http://www.stuff.co.nz/4596976a10.html
talks of the lifetime love of a couple, when so often we hear of relationship breakdown. It’s a story I loved to read, would have loved to have written and hope one day to write of.

Love that lasts a lifetime is a powerful read. A magnetic one.

Your post struck a chord with me this evening. It reminded me why I wrote my novel, An Island Away. Because the love in the story was neither perfect nor seemingly possible, but in the end, it was believable. Why? Because it was (more or less) a true story. http://www.bentpage.wordpress.com.

Hey Rachel,
agree, one of the nicest things I have ever seen is the obvious love that some elderly have for each other.
Its funny but one common key is forgiving and accepting personality foibles and even some bigger stuff. Its the warmth and smiles they have for each other, those moments I think, I wish I was a great unobtrusive photographer.
Are we that different?
All the best
